Today I wanted to share something with you that Troy had us read over and discuss in one of our more recent staff meetings.
Here is the Link: http://jamesclear.com/marginal-gains I highly encourage you to read it!
In this article, the author James Clear discusses how making a 1% change in any area of your life is really not very notable, but in the long term it can be extremely meaningful.
I don't want to spoil the whole article on you so you will have to read on to find out just how big of a change 1% can make over time. But I will say that the part of the article that stood out most for me, and that has motivated me to start making these small 1% changes, is the table entitled "Aggregation of Marginal Change" (pictured above). It is pretty powerful to see a visual of the effect that making a 1% improvement vs. a 1% decline can have on your life!
So, here are the changes I have been personally working to improve by 1%.
- Stretching and doing maintenance work on my body 1% more (I spend 5-10 minutes every night with my foam roller before bed!)
- Watching 1% less TV (Tempting to keep watching when The Voice and the Blacklist are my two fav shows and have new seasons airing right now!)
- Spending 1% more time working on organization (Looking up Organization on Pinterest counts right?)
Really….those 1% changes are nothing to write home about, but so far I can truly say that I have been much more effective with my time and I haven't found myself saying "I should be doing this," or "I should have done that" as often as before.
I plan to change the things I focus my 1% on every few weeks because let's face it, 1% is really do-able and doesn't take long to implement. So once these changes become habits I will decide on 3 new tasks to change by 1%.
Thanks for reading!
Please feel free to share what the 1% changes that you will make, in fact, I would love to hear!
