Hot! Hard! Stunning! That was the ride we did today. We started with the Col de Tourmalet and tackled there more monsters after that. I came good today after my difficult time trial yesterday. Had a good night sleep and I'm sure that helped a lot. The last climb of the day was treacherous. 4 km of 12+% and then it eased off for 6 km of 7-10%. Ouch. It was also 35 degrees while I was climbing and even hotter for those a little further back.
I'd like to shout out today to Bill Semrau. He is absolutely soldiering through his Haute Route experience. He is still on a rental bike which has been causing him numerous problems physically as the fit isn't quite right. He has also been dealing with concussion symptoms due to a crash a few months ago. Billy has to keep his heart rate from getting too high and that is definitely a challenge on these mountains. So far he has finished every stage with a smile. Today he got in just under the cut off time. Finishing the final climb with the Lantern Rouge (the rider from the event that acts and sweep and wears an all red kit, great guy by the way).
I just ate too much cheese, baguette, and sausage...it might be time for a nap.
