A month ago I spoke about my journey to the stage and really, it was a collection of thoughts and feelings I had up until that point. Not much has changed since then but some things have. Today, July 7th is the 3 day mark out from my competition on July 10th. This means I am currently in what the bodybuilding community calls, “peak week.” For some, peak week is a week to rest up and maintain their bodies before hitting the stage. For others, well we consider it the final days to add any last minute touches and manipulations that could either put us ahead of the competition or ruin EVERYTHING!
From carb manipulations, water manipulations, sodium manipulations and diuretics, there is never a shortage of old school body building tricks to get your body looking lean and shredded, providing you have already put in the work throughout your prep and you are already lean. However, all these tricks are useless or potentially detrimental to you and your physique if not exercised properly. The problem with all of these “tricks,” is that there really is no science to back them up, everyone is individual to how their body responds to each manipulation and it is all about personal trial and error.
Before I begin with my next blurb I would like to note that these manipulations and diets ARE NOT MAINTAINABLE or SUSTAINABLE and should never be exercised by someone other than a competitor and a seasoned one at that. With that being said I would like to talk a little about my choices for this prep and my results so far. For this year’s peak week I have chosen to attempt all manipulations used within the community of body building. Below is a breakdown of this week’s plan.
C: 100g F: 40g P: 120g Water: 6 Litre
C: 50g F: 50g P: 150g Water: 8 Litre
C: 0-30g F: 50 g P: 180g Water: 8 Litre
C: 0-30g F: 50 g P: 180g Water: 4 Litre
C: 50g F: 50g P: 150g Water: 2 Litre
C: 80g F: 40g P: 120g Water: 750ml
ANYTHING GOES---Sorta Water: 0-250ml
I trained each day up until Thursday. After Thursday there is no training or cardio to be done until we head back stage to the pump up room on Sunday before we hit the stage. This week has by far been the hardest week throughout my prep. Every day I feel different, some days I feel like a winner other days I feel like I have no chance of making it to nationals. Currently I am also experiencing self induced short term memory loss, which is a side effect due to a lack of food and nutrients to my body. But I do also feel leaner, harder and dryer than I did last week. So, so far I believe all of these little tricks are working for me, personally. This all may sound horrible I’m sure, and as I am writing this you’re 100% correct, it is horrible, I feel horrible! But as horrible as this week is or has been and as much as I feel like a zombie at the moment, the positives far outweigh this one week! No matter what happens up on that stage, I can truly say I gave it my all and brought my best package/physique to date!
