A couple weeks ago I went to Europe with my UBC Varsity Hockey Alumni (and friends) to play some friendly games against teams in Prague & Budapest. Fortunately we had contacts in each city to play host for us and arrange teams to play. In Prague was Pavel Suchanek whom I actually played with at UBC when we were students and in Budapest we had a Canadian guy named Paul Channing. Paul has lived and worked there for 15 years. These guys were amazing setting up the games, restaurants, tours, nights out, and general fun !
We played against a mix of former pro players from the NHL on down. The hockey was good (for mid August !) and we won three games after losing our first to a pretty stacked Czech team. The first game loss also came after the first night out together in Prague........
I've been to Europe with hockey teams a number of times in my life and these trips never dissappoint. To top this one off the last night before I flew home Paul managed to secure front row tickets to the Red Hot Chili Peppers show for me-- a great send off.
