Packing a lunch is by far the best way to ensure you've got a decent (and possibly healthy) meal waiting for you early afternoon. Barring that, where do you go when you can't be bothered to fling last night's leftovers into tupperware, or you forget your lunch on the counter on your way out the door? Joslynn asked GWA's trainers to give her their favourite quick-stop lunch or afternoon snack spot located around Vancouver City Centre. Fair warning: they weren't asked to deliver their favourite *healthy* options.
1.) Vital Supply Co.
Starting right at ground zero, you may have noticed we have a new refrigerator in the lobby. GWA is now a pickup location for the food delivery service provided by Vital Supply Co. We've all sampled their food and agree it's delicious and gourmet! Order your service through their website, have your meals delivered to the gym and pick them up after your session. Check out their website or ask Joslynn for more details. http://www.vitalsupplyco.com
2.) Fresh Choice Cafe
Located in the lower level of the Scotia tower, Fresh Choice Cafe is part of Vancouver Centre's retail area. Coffees, teas, breakfast wraps and muffins, salad bar and more ready-to-go deli items. Open early - 7am.
3.) Nosh by Global in the TelusGarden
Breakfast until 11am, lunch and dinner 11am to closing, as well as drinks and happy hour. Highly recommended by more than a few individuals queried.
4.) Pacific Centre Food Court
Variety! The mall food court has a few decent options, from sushi (Umi) to sandwiches (La Prep), as well as build-your-own salad (Insalata). One trainer suggests a dirty treat at A&W - bunless burger and fries.
5.) Chopped Leaf
Stop at the Chopped Leaf off Richards on Robson for a healthy or low carb meal. Choose your salad base, add your lean protein, pick your extras and preferred dressing - voila! Definitely cannot do your waistline wrong going here, plus they have a points card to accrue bonuses with if you're a frequent visitor.
6.) Gallery Cafe and Catering
Located in the Vancouver Art Gallery, this secluded cafe with a garden patio offers take-away and sit-down meals, quality food for decent prices.
Here's another central cafe serving more than just coffee and muffins that you may have not heard of! Sit-in for a yummy benny or bowl breakfast, or grab a Reboot smoothie to ward off those early afternoon head-bobs. You'll find Nosherie on the north side of Georgia St. between Seymour and Richards.
If you're interested in heading a tad further from Vancouver City Centre, honorable mention goes to Tractor at 355 Burrard, where they serve healthy salads (with protein add-on!) and sandwiches every day. One more thing we are getting excited about is the July opening of a second, larger SMAK location at 545 Granville St., where you'll be able to get healthy, gluten-free fast food and smoothies in eco-friendly packaging.
Of course, there are many wonderful options in our large downtown core, these are just a few we know of and recommend. If after reading our list you have somewhere you'd like to add, let us know next time we see you!
Bon appetit! :-)
