I have so much admiration and respect for people who devote much of their lives to giving to others. In the health and fitness industry, it is imperative to possess a caring heart and to be prepared to sacrifice time, effort, and money to give to clients and colleagues. This is my favourite part of my business.
With that being said, I have also learned that another important aspect in life is our own body. Far too often, people spend almost too much time on other people and chores that they forget that their own health is important, too. We have just one body; if we want to give to others, we must give to our own body as well.
Taking care of our bodies requires a degree, albeit a small degree of selfishness. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Never stop giving to others; it will take you far in life. But also remember to give time to yourself and nourish your body and health. This does not need to be complicated. All it may require is for you to give yourself a reminder to set aside a bit of time everyday to perform something that is beneficial for your body. This could be as simple as going for a walk, eating a healthy meal, going to the gym, meditating, taking a much needed nap, or even going to a dance. The choice is yours. Just keep it simple and perform an activity that will benefit your own body.
So never stop giving to others. Give to your family, give to your friends, give to your colleagues, give to your clients, and give to strangers. But do not forget to give to your body; you have only one.
