On Sunday Jon and I competed in the Subaru Half Ironman in preparation for the Ironman.  It was an overcast day and a 6:30am start into the ocean at Jehrico Sailing Club for two loops of 1000m…let me tell you it wasn’t warm.  After that is was 90km on our bikes in the form of 4 loops  with a climb up UBC hill in each one followed by a half marathon (21km) down Spanish Banks.  Jon had an amazing race at 4:42, knocking almost 30 min off  his time from 2 years ago.  Troy did 5:01 and would have broken 5 hours if he didn’t have trouble putting on his shirt.  Try it: purchase a skin tight Under Armour shirt, step in the shower, step out and try and pull it on hahaha.

Cam & Curtis

Cam Sedgwick and Curtis Hodgson captured the first National Lacrosse League championship for the Washington Stealth last night.(click on their link for more details)  In front of a loud crowd of 8600 the Stealth beat the Toronto Rock 15-11.   Sedgwick got the game winning goal with just over six minutes left.  Congratulations to both of them!

We played the Ontario Champion, Dundas last night and tied 4-4.  We had a 3-1 lead heading into the third and needed to win by three goals to finish first in our pool.  We pressed hard and Dundas capitalized on their chances to tie the game up.  Tonight we face the defending Allan Cup Champion Bentley Generals, who are coached by former NHL player Brian Sutter and have the brother of  LA King’s player Ryan Smyth.  Winner advances to the semi final, loser goes home.  Yesterday the tournament featured the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe trophies on display.

Last night we played the Prairie Champion, the South East Prairie Thunder, and lost 4-2.  The game was 1-1 heading into the third period when the Thunder got two quick goals to take the momentum.  We came out flying in the first period and were all over them 5 on 5, but took 10 minutes of minor penalties that took some steam out of our game.  Today is a day off with only a practice and tomorrow we play the Ontario champion–Dundas.  Follow along here for live game updates.

Troy drinking out of the Allan Cup after winning the 2006 title!

The Powell River Regals begin their quest for the 4th Allan Cup Canadian Championship in their history this weekend in Whitehorse. The best of five series starts Thursday night with the winner advancing to the Allan in Fort St John BC April 19-24th. Troy Dalton is in his eighth season with the Regals.

Congratulations to Sarah Hillworth, of the University of Alberta Pandas, who recently won the Women’s Canadian Universtiy Championship.  U of A beat the McGill Martlets in the final 2-0, halting a 86 game winning streak in the process.

On Saturday I got a chance to play road hockey at the O-Zone in Richmond with Pat Quinn (Edmonton Oilers Head Coach), Matt Moulson (NY Islanders), Jeff Tambellini (NY Islanders), and BC’s Mayors. After we played the mayors all the kids in the crowd got to come out and don a jersey to play with the NHLers. It was such a cool Canadian experience!! Congratualtions to Kenndal McArdle (see the video here) of the Florida Panthers who scored his 1st NHL goal on Saturday night!  The Panthers were playing the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada and leading 1-0 with a little over 6 minutes remaining when Kenndal scored on a hard wrist shot off a two on one.  It was the insurance marker in a 2-0 win for Florida.

Today we had a Powered by Chocolate Milk video shoot where we filmed six 60 sec fitness tips.  GWA has signed a deal with the BC Dairy Foundation to be the official strength and conditioning experts for their campaign to promote Chocolate Milk as a recovery drink.  We have written a number of informative fitness articles to be put up on their site (with the videos) in the coming days!  Click on Health and Training.  Also, look for us in media and advertising campaigns soon.  We have some Chocolate Milk coming to the gym soon for all our clients to have….post workout of course!!  Photos below:

I am up in Whitehorse this weekend in our first games of the 2009-10 season. This years Allan Cup Championship is in Fort St John in April and we are in the process of recruiting a team to make our first run at it since the 2006 win.
