Matt Moulson, Jeff Tambellini, Pat Quinn, Troy Dalton

On Saturday I got a chance to play road hockey at the O-Zone in Richmond with Pat Quinn (Edmonton Oilers Head Coach), Matt Moulson (NY Islanders), Jeff Tambellini (NY Islanders), and BC’s Mayors. After we played the mayors all the kids in the crowd got to come out and don a jersey to play with the NHLers. It was such a cool Canadian experience!! Here is the link to the Vancouver Sun story and some pictures.

New Article: Determining your Heart Rate Range and Training Zone: Jon Bula

053Exercise intensity is extremely important when you are working on your conditioning drills, and is possibly the most important variable in determining the quality of an exercise session.  When performing interval training, training for endurance sports, measuring recovery time, or comparing the same run from a previous week a heart rate monitor is a very useful tool.  The correct use of a heart rate monitor can allow you to accurately regulate your exercise session and maximize your training efficiency.

Day 2-7 Martigny to Nice, France

roof-21

So this post is being upadated from back in Geneva after the trip–the small french towns we stayed in did not have any available internet to travellers for a number of reasons 1) None of the hotels provided wireless 2) We think it was a holiday Weekend and none of the cafes were open 3) We stayed in some ski resorts and it is in between seasons so most stuff us shut down.  Anyways I will provide a paragraph and lots of photos of each stage in one long post.

A quick summary–730km of riding in 7 days, 32 actual hours on our bike, approximately 17,000 meters of climbing, 18,000 meters of descending, with no flat tires, and one minor crash. Enjoy.

Day 1: Geneva to Martigny

I have uploaded a bunch of photos at the end of  the post.  So we started in Geneva yesterday and rode 121km (about 4.5 hous riding time) to Martigny, Switzerland.  Our group consists of: 2 doctors(three if you count our support driver), a lawyer, a dentist, a contractor and me.  Basically you can get in an accident, get your teeth and body fixed up and sue at the same time!!!  We were all fired up to leave, packed our support vehichle and sent him on his way and were going to ride 2 minutes down the road to take a group shot at the French border.  Six of us roll out and exactly 28.3 seconds into the ride one of the guys shreds a cable.  Haha.  What a start, luckily there was a bike store close by and we got it fixed.  We headed along Lake Geneva for about 70km of the day, taking some back roads as you cannot ride on the highway over here.  It was really cool having the lake on one side, corn fields on the other, mixed in rolling through some small Swiss towns.  We got rained on pretty hard for about the last 60km but it wasnt cold so it was all good.  The day was actually supposed to be only 110km but we through in a 5 km …Continue reading »
