At the Pan Am games this past week Canada had two great victories for gold medals.  We beat the USA in men’s baseball on Tuesday and Brazil in women’s soccer on Thursday.  Both teams featured GWA athletes: Mark Hardy, a left hand pitcher for the baseball team, and Shannon Woeller, a defender for the soccer team.

GWA athlete Shannon Woeller is representing Canada in women’s soccer at the Pan Am Games.  She played 90 minutes yesterday in Canada’s 3-1 defeat of Costa Rica.

First off congratulations to GWA clients Rich Osborn and Greg Mackie for finishing Ironman Canada–Rich’s first and Greg’s second. All of our times can be found here. None of us managed the pro’s top times of 8:28 (men) and 9:03 (women), in fact I was just starting the marathon when the winning male was running into the finish!! Jon Poli has taken a job as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program.  He spent 5 great years working for us and developing his craft.  This is a great opportunity for him.  Although we will be really sad to see him go, we wish him all the best.

We invite you to come down Friday to our ‘Train the Trainer’ event in support of Right to Play.  Come on down and enjoy some wine or beer on us and take in the festivities.  Feel free to bring anyone you would like!

Check out the webisodes of The Jim Show that was filmed last year at Groundwork Athletics. We went to the launch party last night and saw the teaser and first episode; it is a funny show!! Pretty cool to see our facility in it!

McArdle, 22, has played in 10 games with the Rochester Americans this year scoring two goals with four assists and 54 PIM. The Toronto, Ontario native played in three games with the Florida Panthers  last season, registering two penalty minutes. Good Luck Kenndal!

Jeff Tambellini of the New York Islanders scored two powerplay goals last night in the Montreal Forum in a 3-2 OT loss to the Montreal Canadiens. He tied the game with under 4 minutes remaining in the third period only to have Roman Hamrlik score the winner in OT. Speaking with Jeff after the game he said it is all due to training at Groundwork Athletics…..
