aerobic capacity testing
Groundwork Athletic’s is proud to now offer aerobic capacity testing, which is perfect for endurance athletes who want specific data related to their aerobic performance
For your test we use an incremental step assessment. The purpose of the incremental step assessment is to measure your body’s response to progressively increasing workloads. How your body responds at various intensities reveals important information on metabolic function, and your individual limiters to performance.
From this we can develop individualized training zones, thresholds, and targets to optimize your training and improve your performance.
Our testing protocol is completely non-invasive. No masks, no finger prick blood samples. Our sensors are like an apple watch. They sit on your thighs and measure the oxygen in the muscle. You will hardly know the sensors are there.

Jon Bula
– MSc Exercise Physiology, University of British Columbia
– Bachelors of Kinesiology, University of British Columbia
Jon was educated at the University of British Columbia where he completed an Undergraduate Degree in Human Kinetics and then went on to complete a Masters of Science Degree specializing in Exercise Physiology. He was the co-founder of Groundwork Athletics back in 2006. Jon spent some time away from the fitness industry to pursue his passion for bikes (speciality bike retail 2017-2023) but he never lost his passion for health and fitness and continued pursuing excellence in those areas. In December 2023 he bought back the business he founded and couldn’t be happier to be back.
While he no longer spends the hours on the training floor that he used, we do occasionally find him out there working with a few clients. Nowadays it’s usually cyclists of some sort, be they road or mountain bikers. Jon has always enjoyed challenging others to achieve their goals, and takes great pride in watching people achieve what they thought might not be possible.
